Nothing can be right again
He walked alone without a friend
Cast aside like worthless trash
People treated him so brash
Walking and dreaming
Of things that used to be
Food that he ate so deliciously
A house with heat
A meal with meat
A bed with pillows that were down
Now he looks around
Cold tall buildings reaching toward the sky
And while walking he keeps saying “Why?”

He is a good man so down on his luck
People sneer at him…won’t even give him a buck
Trudging along with weak and tired limbs
He doesn’t know what became of the true him
Working hard all his life
Taking care of his children and wife
And then she left without a word
Another man…so he heard
The children were gone .. no one to care
He was alone…no one there

Now his pillow is a rock..His life is filled with shame
No one looks in his face .. no one says his name
He sleeps in the park..on the dirt and leaves
His clothes are filthy…stiff are his sleeves
No money to be had..no job for this man
This certainly was not what he had planned
Sometimes he goes hungry…his stomach burns in pain
He knows in his heart that nothing will change
Lost in the hustle and bustle of traffic flying by
A lonesome man with tears in his eyes

The homeless walk the street disheveled and feeling low
People ignore them and don’t really know
What a sad and pitiful life these people lead
Their bodies worn … their hearts bleed
Where is the help that they so desparately want
Put out your hand … no longer taunt
A government fighting an useless extravagant war
When people are in need and are so poor
Sad am I for all their deep pain
See them walking in the rain
I always stop to talk awhile
Give them some money and a smile
In a country so rich and with so much power
How can we let the homeless walk the streets another hour?

more than about homeless, i think this touches on the notion that people are criticised for where they are right now, not the journey that they are on, or where they could be next week or where they were last week. brilliant! C XX
