Flashing in and out of sanity
Loss of hope and vanity
All the mirrors covered with hate
No more can she relate
To the person she had inside
It was her time to hide
Her life was so wracked with pain
She hated her life filled with disdain
Her personalities split in two
She didn’t know which one was who
Living on the brink of disaster
Who was she now..who would she be after
Medication she no longer took
She could no longer look
Deep down into a soul filled with so much confusion
Her life in each personality a pure illusion
Days she could not remember
Months at a time forgetting September
Not knowing who she was and feared what she had done
One personality sad…one filled with fun
Living on the edge each day of her life
Never hoping to be someone’s wife
How could anyone tolerate her memory loss
In bed she would turn and toss
Death sometimes seemed like an idea
But it was death that she most feared
Two people in one body .. what could she do
Her life a mess .. she was so blue
A sudden surge and she was not the same
A change in personality .. a change in name
Schizophrenia is a disease with denial involved
Medications help but do not solve

Nice one Sally. Apparently I have been a paranoid schizophrenic all my life. Other doctors say, no you have a broken neck.

Do not confuse schizophrenia with Multi Personality Disorder. They are two different ‘Classes” of disease. A schizophrenic does not have multi personalities, although moods might indicate otherwise. People with multi personality disorder are not schizophrenic, although there behaviour may appear like it.

I am fine I am not in denial… no I’not….how would you know….

Make sure you see a specialist psychiatrist that has the two years of time to observe you, so they get the diagnosis right…..... It take at least two years.

People recently bashed or terrorised or drugged, have been wrongly diagnosed because the public health system can not afford to pay specialist psychiatrists..

Greg, The poem is based on a secretary that worked for me who had Schizophrena with
multiple personality disorder…every case of Schizophrena is different I am sure….She
suffered terribly and was in denial…which led her to not take her medication and be
hospitalized…it was very sad…she was a lovely girl with a mental disorder…my heart
still goes out to her….And I am sure many people are diagnosed improperly and do not
get the help they need….Thank you for your comment….Hugs, Sally xxxooo

Sally, good to bring to attention but a tricky subject because of the differing degrees and individual requirements. I find the art difficult to view. My heart goes out to anyone with mental disorder of any kind, may they have the loving help they need to find peace.

Very sad Sally. If she was on Olanzapine, I don’t blame her for not taking it. It has now been linked to poosibly triggering diabetes, due to the wait gain issue. I have a letter from the Drug and Theraputic Goods Administration confirming that.
I had never been hospitalised, or gotten into any real trouble until after I was misdiagnosed and placed on anti-psychotic medication. Now I no longer take it, with my doctors approval, and the only trouble I have been in is for calling my MLA ( Memeber For Legaslitive Assembly ) a spelt with c ends in t.
The closest thing to psychosis that a “normal” person could experience, is to get blind drunk.

Sorry Sally. A touchy subject for me. Loved the poem though

Greg, Didn’t mean to open any wounds…it’s just I am fascinated by
the mind and where it brings people….calling a name to a Member
of Legislative Assembly is something probably deserved by him….
The drugs from what I have heard are as dangerous as the disease
but do control it….there are so many mental conditions that just
tear at peoples’ hearts….Hugs, Sally xxxooo

Del, It is a very difficult subject…I had a secretary that suffered from
this condition.. I asked Saleire to do artwork for the poem…she read
the poem before it went up….and saw it as I do …. total torment….
I also pray for their peace…it is a disease of different degrees and
I have read many times misdiagnosed…hopefully one day there will
be cures for all the suffering people with mental disorders suffer…
Thank you so much for your comment…Hugs, Sally xxxooo

Spelling errors in my last comment- possibly, and weight….... No need to apologise Sally. I thank you for raising anything to do with mental health. most people know little and most suffers, suffer further because of unwarrented prejudices and misconceptions. Most schizophrenics have highly developed intellects and are more of a threat to themselves than anyone else. hollywood has put out some horrible sterotypes that are nothing like reality.
Most of the medications are for the benifit of the community and carers, mainly all sedating. All my psych workers have confirmed this.
How many people are made out to be mad by others, because they are suffering abuses from the people saying they are mad…. Your hearing voices aren’t you.
    I’m not deaf..

bravo for raising difficult and complex topics
i agree with gregory, multi personality disorder and schizophrenia are 2 different diagnosis, but with any mental illness issues, the meds given are a complex issue -

its difficult when the meds mask illness and that can be so hard for people to understand that they are not cured – ive seen this happen time and time again, such a hard lesson to learn
