Ashen was her skin
When she saw him glance
She wanted to run
It was her last chance
Perhaps in the frenzy
Of people all about
She could free herself
And finally get out
She became his one and only
He was her lord and master
Marrying him was wrong
A total disaster
He ruled their home
With an iron fist
He had fooled her
Life took a cruel twist
She looked back
And he was standing there
Again she was stopped
She wasn’t going anywhere
From the time she met him
She became his possession
A woeful tale
Of a man with an obscession
She wanted to run
Wanted to hide
She lost it all
Even her pride
She went home with him
And that day
With a sad realization
She would never get away
She changed her attitude
Followed his rules
Like a foolish girl
Still in school
She hated herself
As much as him
She was not strong enough
What a sin
She grew old
Way before her time
He no longer cared for her
That was fine
He left her late one night
Destitute and all alone
And told her you should be happy
You’re now on your own
He laughed as he walked away
He went onto a new flame
A new possession
He would act the same
She looked in the mirror
The years had taken their toll
She was still beautiful
But looked very old
Without him she would find her way
Would find happiness in her solitude
She would gather her thoughts
Never again be in a bad mood
She was rid of him
Life was as it should have been
She was finally free
No longer did she have ASHEN SKIN
