HIDING IN THE SHADOWS
Behind the stairs
She knew soon
He would be there

She waited in anticipation
For his arrival
He was her love
Her only survival

She heard the door open
So very slow
Her heart pounded
She loved him so

Then there were voices
He was talking to her
Why couldn’t things
Be as they were

She listened as they walked
And kissed on the landing
Looked up at them
And watched them standing

They didn’t see her
But he felt she was there
He could feel his blood curdle
So strong was her stare

He called out her name
She didn’t answer him
He now loved another
How could he commit this sin

She took out her gun
And pressed it to her head
A shot rang out
And now she was dead

He stood in horror
Guilt throughout his being
He couldn’t believe
What he was seeing

She couldn’t function
Without being his wife
That is why
She took her life

Forever in his heart
There was a big hole
For cheating on her
And destroying her soul

Great writing Sally. It’s sad to think that some people think they can’t survive without the other person. I don’t think we should be that dependant.
