She walked through her childhood
As though she wore silk
Her clothes were tattered
Parents couldn’t afford milk
Walking with her head held high
Her eyes always focused
Toward the sky
The shoes on her feet
Broken and old
In the winter .. no coat
She was cold
Still she walked with grace
Without being embarrassed
Being ridiculed
She was sometimes harassed
By the children at school
It didn’t matter at all
She was self-confident
No one would let her fall
As she got older
She prospered and thrived
She thanked her parents
For being alive
Her self-confidence throughout her life
Was attributed to her Mom and Dad
Who appreciated
The precious jewel they had
