Leaves in Flight
On a breezy night
As the wind settles down
They fall to the ground
In early morn
With the sun first born
I make my way
To the leaves this day
I sit there and embrace
The leaves and I trace
The veins of their being
In the awesome colors I am seeing
Wishing I could replace
The leaves in their grace
Back upon the tree
And whisper I love thee
The tree will look so sad
That the leaves that it had
Had sauntered away
And it will be bare every day
Until the spring replenishes
What was diminished
Again, the leaves will be green against the sky
And I will see their beauty and cry
For again very soon
The tree will be naked in the moon

Wonderful poetry – I also love leaves – love the smell of them in autumn (fall) especially. Also love to watch the cats play with them in the breeze. Fabulous! xxx

The awesome circle of creation…lovely Sally very sweet! You know in the Qur’an, leaves in the wind and trees swaying to the breeze is described as bowing to their Creator…

  • Sally Omar replied

Summayyah, Thank you so much…what a beautiful thought…I love
the leaves on the trees and even when they fall to the ground but
I don’t like that they die and the trees are naked..Sally xxoo

Sally, another fantastic poem. Your thoughts remind me of the book , The Fall of Freddy the Leaf, a wonderful book for children and adults dealing with the life cycle and trying to understand in a graceful way the meaning if death. The book uses the gentle, concrete metaphor of the annual changes in leaves on a tree to help anyone appreciate the different phases of life. Each leaf leaves the tree differently: some drift down quietly, and others fiercely resist the tug of the wind. This shows how each person approaches death differently. Freddy resists until he is withered and brown, the last leaf on the branch. Finally he lets go and experiences a sense of peace. Although the leaves, die each year, they are part of the tree which lives on, although even it has a finite life. This lovely book book discusses the interconnecedness of life and death in a very poetic style like the book Lifetimes. I wrote about these two book and others attached to a photograph of a vibrant leaf and another dying on the vein. It is on artwanted.com/masterofthemaze under the category leaves and I will upload it when I find the photograph.
