A QUESTION
As you probably know, I host many Groups, and we run Challenges…
sometimes the voting is very sparce and there is a winner with only
a few votes.
Is it proper to have Challenges open to everyone on RB…so that
those who have put there efforts into their art and writing have a greater
chance of winning. Now I am not saying anyone should be asking for
votes…that I think is improper…
We are a community … the more we interact in Groups the tighter we
become…
I am hoping more members of RB whether they are members of
my Groups or not take a more active part in voting in these Challenges
What is your opinion … I would like to know …. and perhaps RB should
set the guidelines for this issue….

oh Sally…I have been very lax in this area…but i will try harder. i love voting on other peoples beautiful efforts…i do i do i do. xxx
Sally Omar replied
But do you think that everyone should be allowed to vote in Group
Challenges even if they are not a Member of that Group?
KEITH R. WILL...
i believe everybody should be capable of entering all challenges in any group here on redbubble, and i believe it allows us all to show, and see the talent that is here
Sally Omar replied
I think to enter…you would have to be a member of a group…but what
do you think about voting…think it should be open to all members of RB?
mimulux
to be honest… i am undecided. i am a voter… but not regular. if i see a challenge that catches my eye and i am allowed to vote…. i do so. but i have switched-off the challenge info.. there is enough info coming in to my bubble as such.. if i’d allow that in too i would go nuts.. it is just too much…. and since one cannot delete any messages here…... i just dont want to receive those additional infos….... mh.. this is not really what you asked though is it ;) huggles :)
Sally Omar replied
But do you think all members of RB should be allowed to vote in
Challenges even if they are not a member?
Katagram
I honestly did not know you could vote outside your group..
I was informed of it yesterday and i think it is a wonderful idea.
I will start voting in more challenges now..
Sally Omar replied
Thank you…I’m hoping more members of RB will come by my Groups and
vote in the Challenges…
coppertrees
I vote and am a Host, I think if you allow longer voting sessions you will recieve more votes…So much happening here that missed items are a usual…
Sally Omar replied
But would you allow members of RB who are not members of your Group to vote in your Challenges?
Patricia Anne ...
I think it depends on the challenge. If it is a general challenge like “your Favorite pic” then everyone can enter. BUT it the challenge requires someone to create a new creation just for the group’s new idea, like “write a poem and paint an image the says who we are” THEN that challenge needs to be done for those in the group who care about the group and understand it and have put effort in to the people and followed the host rules. it should not be open to just anyone who may have a work that fits already while others put a lot of work into the idea. They should be required to at least join the group before they enter. dodes that make sense?
Sally Omar replied
You have to be a Member to enter…but what about voting…if you’re not
a member of a Group…should you be allowed to vote in their challenges?
mimulux
mh.. difficult. i think in the case patricia anne stated only members should be allowed to vote… only members can participate .. in creating art and in voting.. . in more general challenges, also non group members could vote….....
Sally Omar replied
I just think this is such a special community and the more we do as a
community the closer we become…all my Groups are open for any
member of RB to place a vote in a Challenge…..I love RB and think the
more Members interact the better…I have even had a challenge with one
of my Groups and another Group…and intend to do this soon again…

I think that being able to vote in any challenge in any Group, without having to be a member ,is a Core essential Element of the Whole Community Spirit here on Redbubble…...As a Host of a few Groups I would reccomend to all the members to vote outside of the group as well a in the group…............To split Members and Non-mebers up in such a way is tearing away at the HeART of Redbubble….....Its about promotion and taking part in what is a fun and exciting way for more people to see your ArtWork…...not to Block certain people out…..........That is segregating Redbubble members into a Them and Us…...Which is definitely NOT what RedBubbles community is about….....I allow Hosts to enter into challenges as they are Artists as well….......Its about the Art….........Saly I have started a Thread in RB’s main Forum about this “LINK”http://www.redbubble.com/groups/redbubble/forums/4/topics/55704-free-for-all-voting-in-rb-challenges I am in favour of Everyone Voting in ANY challenge….........Thank You for writing this Sally…............Your Friend

Thank you Sally for the question .
I believe in a community such as we have in RB . where many artist of different types meet and learn from one another and discuss anything and respect and admire one another
I thnk RB has done a magnificent job , a magnanimous job it is .
I understand that we are here for a few reasons. To show our art in its many forms , and to share this art. One of the many ways that Rb has helped in this area is by giving us the Challenge format .
That being said , I do believe that when a challenge is up and running, and many people become aware of it, the community becomes a bit tighter, when we get to see , a theme of photographs, or Tshirts . etc.
I remember well, the Challenge you put up with two groups involved, which I thought was so very unique and giving and generous, and made people really have to place on their thinking caps.
I wonder who would go against the voting outside of the group .. and what would be their motive?. I respect all peoples, so if they by chance decide that they do not want the voting out to the public, then maybe a button could be pushed, if provided, by RB.. by the creator of the challenge at the time of this creation . I guess it could become their choice,.
But, the more the merrier. the brighter and happier, and the more we promote each other the better. . Where would the harm be in people coming over and seeing our art?
Cheers to all .
Isa
oh , and thanks too for the forum link . @Doreen
Patricia Anne ...
MMMM Voting…... Well I think yes, as we are all artist here and we all comment on all types of art from many different group members, why not have the rights of vote. I mean I think it is the same as asking for votes when you state only members may vote. That forces members to be responsible for the out come. It also tightens the box so to speak. members with in the group will have a narrow view and vote from a narrow view point, even if they don’t mean it this way this is the nature of the beast. it’s the same as knowing a person in the contest and already having a view about it. By allowing others to vote, you not only brauden the view but you can gain new membership. Someone may be so inspired by the theme or art enter that they may wish to be a part of this, If you only allow a member to vote, then you cut of chances for the group to grow.
Sally Omar replied
Absolutely…as a Group Host you want your Group to be noticed and grow..
as a Community we become more tight-knit…

RB is a Community, so I recon everyone is in a group whether they are in it or not…..
Sally Omar replied
Exactly!!!

Sally Others may have said it but I think Voting should also be by group members. Votes show that your art piece is fulfilling a criteria If the voter has no interest in that criteria (as in being a member of the group focused on the criteria) then how can they be a good judge of that criteria?
Also opening voting to all members increases the popularity vote as opposed to the good art vote … you may as well hold a competition for the best shot of thin air for all the good the artist’s talent will show … it will just count up the number of their friends!
For integrity of the art in a challenge it needs to be voted for by people who have an interest enough to be in the group & thus know a little about what is being attempted.
It would be like everyone in the world allowed to chose your President or our Prime Minister or the winner of our gymnastics championships or our Miss Australia or who is Aussie of the year!
That’s my take on it.
For everyone to vote RB needs to run a Site Challenge
Does that make sense?
Chookas lady! ♥
Sally Omar replied
Alyssa, I must disagree with you on this point…we can’t compare our
RB tight-knit community to voting for a president…we are all artists or writers
looking for more confidence in our work…I really feel everyone should be
allowed to vote in Challenges…as it is..many members win with one or two
votes when you have alot of entries…just think of the possibilities for the
artists’ work to be recognized if all members could vote whether or not
belonging to a Group…it will further knot the bonds of members…I go into
Groups I don’t belong to all the time just to look at new work…but everyone
has their own opinion…and you know i love you even if we disagree…

I think that the system is fine the way it works now. As it is, we do not have to be members of a group to vote in challenges. If we restrict voting only to members of the particular group, we run the risk of cliques controlling the outcome of challenges.
Sally Omar replied
I agree…yesterday it became apparent that there are some Group Hosts
who want to restrict voting in their Groups to only Group Members which
I thought was very unfair…
H M Bascom
I don’t know how a group host thinks he or she will control who can and can not vote in a challenge! We do not have any way to verify group membership of those voters. A group host can demand it, but they can’t make it happen. Besides, why on earth would a host not want everyone to be able to vote in a challenge? This stimulates interest in the group and probably results in new members joining up so they can participate in the next group challenge.
Sally Omar
It seems to me that some hosts don’t realize that our job is to promote our Groups and
promote its members’ work…
