This morning I woke up thinking about my Mom. On this day 17 years ago…March 15, 1993….she said goodbye to us and to this Earth and returned to her real Home. She was ill for over a year, so we had time to say what we needed to say, but when her breath stopped, it seemed all too soon….in the blink of an eye she was gone from our physical presence.

I was thinking all morning of a way to honor her creatively and nothing felt just right, so i just let it go. Mid-morning, Donna called me into the living room to see a beautiful Dove on our deck eating Sunflower seeds….immediately the tears came and I knew it was Mom. She has come to me in the form of a Dove before and here she was on this day, visiting me and letting me know she is still around.

As you probably know, Doves are ground-feeders…and our deck is about 5 feet off the ground, so we have only had them visit once or twice in the 2 1/2 years we have lived here….so it was quite an unusual and wonderful surprise to see this beautiful bird this morning…

So….posting this shot of our Dove visitor is my way of sharing today….a day that is bittersweet for me….and I say to you….this Earthly life is so short, so cherish every precious moment with the ones you Love…and know also that Love never dies….and one day you and your departed loved one will be together again…

This song’s for you, Mom:

This is truly a gift to visit you today, my friend. I can understand what a mother’s loss is.. My own left us on April 14th of last year, so as the anniversary approaches, my heart embraces yours. Lovely image xox

Jan my dear, dear friend – how incredibly moving and beautiful this is but how powerful your words of both tribute and faith. No matter how many years it’s been since our losses, the love remains the same. Messengers come to us in so many forms – how fitting that your mother should come as a dove, a symbol of both love and peace. Just beautiful Jan – and loving hugs your way xoxox

  • lianne, thank you so much, my loving and dear friend…i know you relate and i feel your empathy and kindness….i am so blessed and thankful for your friendship…
