Live With Compassion by Jan Landers

Last evening as we sat on our front porch watching a most incredible sunset, a little bunny emerged and sat right in front of us in our neighbors’ yard, still as could be. When the neighbors came walking up their driveway and saw him, the man chased him across the yard, then picked up a rock and threw it at him to scare him away…..

My heart first felt anger…and then a deep sadness… that this man does not see and cherish the beauty of the connection we all have on this Earth….what an empty life….

An empty life indeed Jan…as Lina says, life after life….he may come back as a bunny and realise that rocks hurt….whoever we are.

  • you are right….we all get to experience all sides of things… always comes back around…thanks, jaybe…

….i’m very interested in why rabbits become a pest, and it seems that their introduction into australia (by humans) then led to them becoming a foodsource for other introduced animals we consider pests such as wild dogs and wild cats and foxes. Then we cull the wild dogs, the wild cats and foxes and the rabbits become even more successful at survival so that they can even overcome disease and outwit human beings….wow… the poor bunny….it seems so unfair to hate a creature that is so beautiful, so clever at survival, outwitting everyone all the time, whilst only ever eating greens and carrots….i guess it’s no wonder it drives humans crazy…..but the sad thing is, we as humans should be examining ourselves as to how we contributed to this mess in the first place, after all bunnies are beautiful!!! I love them (and foxes too!)
Our Tasmanian Devils here in Australia are in trouble, and it’s got something to do with the introduction of things by humans as well…..they are suffering from a terrible cancer, so normally they control the number of wild cats and dogs, but i believe the cats are taking over as the tasmanian tigers decrease with this awful new blight of disease…… i think our ecosystems are out of whack, and throwing rocks at bunnies is futile :( It’s all our own fault, as humans we think we know what’s what, but obviously not!! lol

  • thank you for your bit of philosophy, karin….i hear you, my friend….humans have a hard time letting nature be nature, and when we start trying to ‘control’ it, we are heading for a downfall….
