The Gathering
OK….I may have been wrong about the Elk Rut Season coming to an end….... :-)
This evening we went for a walk at Lake Estes and before we got halfway down the trail, we saw a traffic jam (or as we call it here in Estes, an ‘Elk jam’) and a huge herd of Elk…..5 Bulls and close to 100 total…..it was chaos….the bulls running crazy, bugling and chasing the cows…babies calling to their moms and people everywhere…..they finally crossed the lake in a long line spanning almost the whole width of the lake….
The sunset was amazing…..and at one point, for just a couple of minutes, the lake turned pink…...I got this one shot of that, cropping out the people who were gathering so close to the herd…...
All in all, it was another incredible evening at the Lake….
