Sunrise Mountain
This is the very top of Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, Colorado, taken a few days ago at sunrise. I can see this magnificent mountain from my deck and probably have 100 photos of it, as each and every day that dawns sheds a new light on it.
Longs Peak is a very popular mountain for climbers from all over. It is 14, 255 feet in altitude…..the climb to the summit is 8 miles with an elevation gain of 4,855 feet, so it is a serious hike….one must start up the trail at least by 3 a.m. and be well prepared for diverse weather conditions. The strong possibility of afternoon thunderstorms encourages hikers to be off the summit by noon.
Longs Peak is one of the most well-known mountains in Colorado and can be seen from Denver to Cheyenne, Wyoming. I open my blinds each day in awe and take a deep breath as I experience the beauty of this mountain in the morning light….and I say ‘thank you’......
