Been There, Done That
Piazza San Pietro, Vatican City
The tour begins.
Bernini’s massive Piazza San Pietro is a breathtaking work of baroque town planning laid out in the 17th Century as a place for Christians to gather. Looked at from above the piazza resembles a giant keyhole: two semicircular colonades, each made up of four rows of Doric columns. On the square there are…

Haha!! I have been there Paul and yes, it is a stunning piece of architecture and planning! In Rome, it must have been really exiting at that time when you had Bernini and Angelo putting up these great master pieces all over town! You have captured this so beautifuly! I love shots like this. Great work Paul!

The light on the ground is sending chills down my spine! The detail and texture in the tiles on the floor is just mindblowingly amazing.
It’s not just reserved for the floors though! Those pillars just gleam on the right, standing so tall and immense (great use of person (have not got a clue as to whether man / woman from this distance so I won’t guess) to show the impressive scale of it all).
The framing of it all is also superb. Floor, roof and two sides, all there to see and those scratchings on the ceiling really add to the shot to.

Beautiful image.

love the perspective of this Paul – the way it gentle sweep round. The detail and texture is wonderful in this – you can almost feel the stonework – the figure/person in the back really makes this for me as it gives it a sense of scale and its grandeur.
