Inspired by Nature
Spiral staircase in the Vatican Museum.
I love spiral staircases and this is an amazing example. Definately inspired by nature, when you looked at it you coudn’t help but see the shell like forms appearing. I would love to photograph this with nobody else around, but I actually feel the people add some scale to this piece and I dont mind them being there at all. If I didnt have the Vatican Guards looking over my shoulder I would have been there all day!

Aaaah…. i was here when i visited Rome… this place attracts so many photographers its not even funny… what i love with your shot, however, is that you chose not to include the entire spiral, seeing as to how thats exactly what a lot of people tend to do when they take pictures of this staircase. and the people in this photo really add to it as well, especially since they create their own pattern on the staircase! i.e – 1st stair level is empty, 2nd stair level has a person, 3rd stair level is empty again, 4th stair level has a person, and so on. tonal range is great too!
hehe i could go on and on but i’ll just say this is an overall brilliant shot and leave it at that! great work, Paul!
