This is stunning Paul – the sense of scale is magnificent here, and great composition too.

Cornelia Togea
great image! looks so good in b&w!
Paul Tupman replied
Thank you Cornelia… much appreciated.
Christine Wilson
is that a figure in the picture really emphasizes the scale, wonderful shot
Paul Tupman replied
Hi Christine, and thanks again. That certainly is a figure in the picture… crossing the frozen lake.
Mark Tisdale
I keep trying to be sure that tiny little dot is actually a human. wow, the scale in this is really dwarfing… Really nice shot!
Paul Tupman replied
Hi Mark and thank you! This lake is absolutely huge with the mountains either side disappearing into the ice. The figure (or I should say figures) is actually a couple returning from the other side, crossing the frozen lake… who knows where they had been!
Mark Tisdale
It’s even more dwarfing knowing it’s a couple! Really incredible bit of landscape! I’m not sure I’ll ever wrap my head around crossing a frozen lake as it never gets that cold in my part of the world! lol
Bob Wickham
Beautiful image. I’ve been to Lake Louise in the summer. Looks like I’ll have to plan a winter trip.
Paul Tupman replied
Hi imagebytes and thanks… actually I am just in the middle of planning a summer trip! A stunning location.

Thank you Laurette… it was stunning and very belittling!
Deborah Parkin
oh wow!!!! What can I say Paul – it is simply stunning – it’s a wonderful landscape but the person in it just makes it for me – it really gives an almost spiritual perspective – we are but mere mortals :)
Paul Tupman replied
Thanks so much Deb… its wonderful to see you round the bubble again! :-)
Stuart Chapman
I have been caning the X files at home of late and watched the film (the 1st one) the other day. It starts off with some stone age guys running across the snow 30,000 years ago and looking at this shot reminds me of that again.
The beauty of nature is it’s never timed, it doesn’t date. Buildings of even 20 years ago look so bad now in comparison but this shot could be 2,000 years old and you wouldn’t know any different.
That individual (not even I will guess the gender from this distance!) just shows off the immenseness of this. That’s an impressive amount of beautiful scenery all packed into one shot with gorgeously white tones dusted down with a gentle feather. Powerful, yet peaceful.
Paul Tupman replied
Thanks so much for your comment on this Stuart.. I know what you mean about the X-Files film… its amazing the stories that can be conjured up from a picture!
Luka Skracic
Oh, just perfect. This wouldnt have worked as well without the individual, it gives it such an eerie scale.
Paul Tupman replied
Thanks a lot Luka.. really appreciate you stopping by. I know what you mean about the individual and the placement couldn’t have been better for me!
pmistric
This is mind-blowing. Great shot of the couple…I still can’t believe the size of them. II am cold now after seeing this pic….I got the chills. OK, that’s crazy to be walking quite a distance in the cold. Burrrrrr…noooooooo. makes a cup of hot tea
Paul Tupman replied
Thanks so much Trish… you really do feel the enormity of nature when you are out in a place like this! Any tea left?
secretagentman7
DAMN that is majestic !
Jane Keats
Holy crap!!
Elizabeth Bravo
I LOVE Jane”s comment. That’s it in a nut shell….Holy Crap. Great job. The person really does make you see how very small we are.
Paul Tupman replied
Haha.. Thanks Elizabeth… I know what you mean about Janes comment – made me smile too! :-)
