The View
Icefields National Park, Alberta, Canada
March, 2008
My dove in the clefts of the rock,
In the hiding places of the mountainside,
Let me see your face.
Let me hear your voice for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.

Awesome shot, like the composition
Paul Tupman replied
Thank you Denis… :-)
Marion Cullen
Love how she’s focused on the view and the camera (you), is focused on her.
Love this Paul.
Paul Tupman replied
Thanks Marion… out in the middle of the most breathtaking scenery and there was definately a recurring pattern concerning the focus of my attention!
Jonicool
Beautiful!
Paul Tupman replied
Thank you Jonicool… :-)
Stuart Chapman
A delightful shot Paul that works both exceptionally well as both a portrait shot and a landscape shot.
What do I mean? Well – The sharp focus of the individual predominately sets this up for a portrait shot, with a minimal expression visible you’re left guessing more than knowing, but the awesome surroundings that you hint towards are seemingly being taken in.
The landscape view and ever so soft focusing but instant recognisability make for a good landscape shot with a human interest.
You’ve pulled off two types of shot within one ever so well.
Paul Tupman replied
Thanks so much Stuart for all of your observations. I definately got what you meant and it was exactly all of that that I love about this shot.
Thanks again… :-)
Birgitta
Great focus/depth here!
Feels coooooold. I like the verse you chose also. :)
One thing that grabs my attention about it all is the
cropping. It looks good as a rectangular horizontal!
Classy work all the way around, and I have a feeling this
is going to stay with me..
Paul Tupman replied
Thanks so much Birgitta… it certainly makes me happy to know that my work can stay with you like that. I love the verse too… it was something I only stumbled across recently and its a wonderful piece of writing.

This illustrates the title so well. Quite often we are presented with wide shots of awesome scenery which somehow seem a bit empty. By adding a person who is viewing the scenery, you’ve given some sense of its scale and a feeling of engagement with it.
Paul Tupman
Thank you DesImages for such a thoughtful comment… the title did just seem so appropriate for this piece. :-)
Mel Brackstone
Yes indeedy, it seems that the landscape wasn’t your focus in this particular image….beautiful image, Paul!
Zaldy Infante
stunning portrait!!!
pmistric
More like breath-taking view to me. You really captured her emotive self very well. Nice B&W and framed well.
