This is a stunning black and white image Paul – i love the drama of the clouds and how the light cuts across the image – it is so straight and direct it almost looks like it has divided the trees from the rest of the landscape. This is yet another image in which i feel the cold and the majestic beauty.
Paul Tupman replied
Thanks so much Deb.. from the whole trip, this had to be the most majestic setting!
Actually this is a desaturated version of the colour original, verging on black and white but with some of the blue tones still lurking in the sky which I feel really adds to the feeling of the cold. Thanks again.. :-)
Jean M. Laffitau

Shree
i guess from my view if you can give still more a touch of navy or dark blue to this pic it will create even more magic to the viewer with its indebth openness and crystal clearity…its just my vision else you are the master….
Paul Tupman
Thank you again Shree for your comment… I appreciate your insight into the colour of the piece.. it was a black and white looking image with the subtle blue tones that I wanted to create, but can understand how others may prefer more colour.. :-)
sarah ward
Breathtaking : ) well done.
Tabita
Stunning setting indeed. And such a great capture of it!
Steven Novak

lex7
Wow ( that was said in hushed, reverent tones) Truly breathtaking. The sky is what really gets me, it is so.. clean, expansive, untouched. I often wonder what a place would look like had I been the first to see it before anyone else had eve come along….. Very well done Pual, as usual.
Paul Tupman
Thanks so much Lexie.. I know what you mean about seeing something for the first time.. imagine how the pioneers must have felt crossing the mountains to be greeted with a site like this and more… thankfully, we were able to drive the route!
Matt Hurrell
Mate, I have got to go to Canada. How awesome is that. Great capture, love the deep blue hue in the sky!
Paul Tupman replied
Thanks mate! And yeah, get yourself over to Canada.. you’ll love it!

Naomi Frost
This is absolutely stunning Paul. Love the hint of blue in the sky, the clouds are perfect …infact the entire composition is amazing. LOVE IT. It’s so smooth (for want of a better word!)
Paul Tupman replied
Hi Naomi.. thank you so much.. I really appreciate that comment.. the blue is something I toyed with for a while… do I leave it colour, black and white? I know, how about something in between!
Rhana Griffin
God but that is beautiful…. all that pristine snow. A girl could lose herself, and yet find herself in this landscape.
Paul Tupman replied
Haha! Thanks Rhana… I’m sure you get plenty of the white stuff down where you are to get lost in!
Mel Brackstone
WOW!!! Love the split toning here Paul, works so well!!!
Atreju Hood

Antanas
amazing view
Mindy McGregor
Great work! Love the B&W!
Stuart Chapman
This has Ansel Adams written all over it Paul and not a TTT in site! The shadow across the untouched snow is just a marvel to stare at and the whisps of clouds float gently across what appears to be a beautiful scene. The details in the mountains are really impressive from this distance but what truly makes this a splendid shot is the shape of and the cluster of trees in the foreground that not only provide a great deal of interest but just show the expanse of the whole scene. My favourite of this “series” so far.
Paul Tupman replied
Wow! Thank you so much Stuart… to be likened to Ansel Adams is a huge compliment! It truly was an awe inspiring place to be and I hope to be back there one day.. would be such a difference to see this lake in summer!
Darbs
Great atmospherics!

Zaldy Infante

Paul Tupman replied
Thank you so much Zaldy… they’re enough words for me! :-)
wellman
this is officially the best B&B&W out there (blue and black and white!) You are the master of giving landscapes such brilliantly strong personalities. Hats off Maestro!
Paul Tupman replied
HAHA.. Thank you so much wellman, I really appreciate that! Have I started my own new genre then of B+B+W? Anyone can join in… the only stipulation is that you are not allowed to be better! :-)
Vickie Emms
whoa,,,have never seen Bow Lake in winter, that’s the only season I haven’t been to Banff. I have a lovely fall scene of the lake.
