Go Your Own Way
Taken just round the corner from the frozen Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada on our recent road trip through the Rockies…
The clouds were breaking and one of the mountains can just been seen on the horizon.

Wonderful moody sky and ink black water really makes this shot Paul. Great work. I hope your trip to Canada met all your expectations and more. From these shots, it certainly seems that to have done!

Beautiful monochrome. It feels like a roadtrip with the river so black, stretching away into beyond.

another beautiful landscape Paul – really suits the portrait style too. I love the black and white contrasts – so strong and contrasty – love the inky black water – would hate to fall in that :)

Thanks Deb.. :-) Well we were pretty conscious that under the snow and ice, the river was quite a bit bigger and stayed well away from any cracks in the snow! I didnt fancy a cold dip either!

I love that you’ve taken this in portrait….and what a moody sky! Brilliant composition. I love the detail too, especially the rocks in the foreground of the river. Awesome work, as always, Paul.

Thanks Naomi.. I really appreciate that! I have to say that a lot of the inspiration for the portrait format comes from looking at your work!

Haha.. thanks traceyanne.. I think perhaps Canada should share a bit of the white stuff!

Wonderful composition, this has a tangible coldness to it. Great piece.

Now, can I hear a song in the title Paul? This is fantastic matey! What really grabs me 1st and foremost is the vertical line of light in the frozen lake in the middle just as the light shafts off round the snow.
The portrait view works together with the b/w treatment too and the dark heavy silhouette of the trees adds to the strength and depth

Thanks so much Shree.. I really appreciate your great comments and compliments… happy painting!

Thanks Stuart.. really appreciate that and yeah you can hear a song in there! It was part of the soundtrack to the whole trip… I love the portrait format too.. I found the foreground balanced with the sky so well that way.

What a fabulous scene, I love the way the reflections are so clear, and that’s a great sky!
