Mt. Hood from National Forest Development Road 2810 · Mt. Hood Wilderness · Parkdale · Oregon · USA

  • Canon 5DII · 16-35mm f2.8L II · CPL
  • 27mm · f/22 · 136s · ISO 100
  • Single exposure with multi-layer processing in CS5
    (Best seen large)

Another shot improved by some new processing techniques I’ve picked up recently, and for me a better result than the first one that I’ve now dubbed second in the series (it’s that way chronologically, anyway). I may even give that second one another go to see if I can even out the exposure and color casts. My only regret with this one is my decision to shoot at f/22 instead of f/16, but ah, well. A couple notes, this is from the same shoot as Convocation and Like Summer Rain (the latter titled loosely after an R&B song by K’ Jon…mad props if you’d already figured that out) and also marks the start of the huge Dollar Lake Fire. We had nothing to do with it, we swear.

Very nice, Tula. I miss that area so much. For 7 years I drove out there for UPS and often got up to Parkdale and vicinity. With shots like this you almost convince me to go buy PS. Thanks for taking me down memory lane! So did you run right out and buy the Mark 3? :<)

  • Thanks, Randy. :) When it comes to residential matters I’m pretty much a city boy, but the view of Hood from Parkdale could convert me to country livin’. Amazing to think they have this view of her year-round (weather-permitting). The Mk III looks like an amazing camera, but not enough of an upgrade for me to shell out a grand more than I did for the Mk II! Maybe if I did more action or wildlife. I think I’ll just wait for your review… ;)

A lovely image. Nice composition and colour.

  • Thank you, Christine. The color was some of the best of seen…no embellishment in my photo at all!

Love this Tula. What a spectacular view of Mt. Hood. The lighting and composition is breathtaking. Nice work!!!

  • Thanks, Jen! And to think we were on our way driving back home! Fortunately we’re all rubberneckers. We actually thought we’d missed the best light earlier while catching glimpses of Hood between the trees on the winding road back and felt lucky to catch this scene before we’d left the area.
