South Falls · Lower Silver Creek · Silver Creek State Park · Silverton · Oregon · USA
South Falls is the second-tallest of the ten waterfalls at Silver Creek State Park (more info at Relics), plunging 177 feet (54m) over layers of basalt into the expansive plunge pool below. It’s almost certainly the most photographed, located just off one of the oft-packed parking lots and easily viewed from multiple angles—including from behind it: the railed footpath is just perceptible right where the green foliage lining the amphitheter ends. It’s thus quite a challenge getting a unique shot of this falls, so I thought I’d ask a couple of trailside bigleaf maples upholstered with shaggy moss carpeting and sprigs of licorice fern to pose with the falls for me. Quite agreeable blokes, they were.
