Nearly a dozen switchbacks bookend each leg of the spectacular Wahkeena Falls-Multnomah Falls loop hike, with 10 or more falls, named and unnamed, populating in between. At a mere 6m tall, spring-fed Fairy Falls is a charming little jewel that in terms of sheer grace and beauty more than holds its own against its larger brethren (74m and 194m tall, respectively) after which the loop hike is named. This image was taken in the middle of winter, when most of the deciduous leaves of the bountiful ferns and shrubs had fallen, leaving behind a tantalizing palette of red leaf litter and twigs set against green mosses.
