Oneonta Creek by Tula Top

Columbia River Gorge, Dodson, Oregon, USA

  • Canon 5DII · 16-35mm f/2.8L II @ 35mm · CPL · 3-stop ND
  • 4 exposures spanning 2-2/3 stops fused in Photomatix Pro, fine-tuned in CS5

Upstream from the unique Triple Falls and Oneonta Gorge, the chasm’s namesake creek loses elevation through a series of bouldery tumbles at a gentle grade belying the more dramatic aforementioned features to come. The cascades are of course too small and numerous to merit formal christening, yet IMO the sum of the parts is too beautiful to remain in total anonymity.

Note: Shows better LARGE. :)

Ripper capture Tula! Wonderful colour and detail of the mossy rocks and love the swirl and flow. Beautifully composed and exposed mate, well done!

  • Thanks a ton, Steve! My biggest concern was the HDR, but it came out looking as natural as possible. Cheers, mate! :)

Your state really does have the most lovely greens, so perfect for lovely shots like this..is it the weather? the canopy coverage? how do you do it??

  • Rain. Rain this past year like I wouldn’t wish upon a dustbowl.

    Rain.

    Beautiful Tula, love the swirl!!!

  • Thank you, Tim! I actually was hoping for a smoother, more distinct swirl, but the water was actually quite stagnant and slow-moving and thus prone to gentle sloshing. What you see here is somewhat a composite of all the swirls from each HDR exposure, so that was a nice bonus effect.

I need to book a few learning sessions… You take reservations?

  • You’re joking, right? Okay, where’s the hidden camera?

If you could step out of your skin and look through your portfolio anew, you’d realize you have the teacher-pupil relationship reversed.

I do appreciate your generosity, though. Thanks, Lina! :)
