Latourell Creek, Latourell, Oregon
I found this mystical little tumble and splash pool detouring off the main artery of Latourell Creek, well away from the throngs at Lower Latourell Falls and just a few yards downstream from the upper falls. Although it’s easily spotted just off the trail, I suspect most people pass right by it with nary a notice. Personally, it felt so idyllic that I could’ve spent the entire afternoon here and been just as happy skipping the ‘bigger-ticket’ falls. Just as I was envisioning little forest fairies flitting this way and that, whimsically breaking the water’s surface with their feet for the sheer fun of it, a delicate orange mayfly slowly fluttered by and lingered for a while. Probably just coincidence, but I couldn’t help but smile.
