1: Tell me something about the image?
It all started with a small scratch on a sheet of paper. A ladder standing in the water, some clouds and a girl reaching for the night sky. I liked the idea and began to collect the images neeeded. Own stock and stuff from sxc.
2: How did you create it? ( you don’t have to give away any secrets )
Started with the background (water) – added a new sky – added the planet – put the ladder into the water – placed the girl into the image – added the clouds – added the stars.
The rest? A lot of blending, color matching, dodging and burning.
And remember: the smudge tool is your friend – with this tool you can blend different parts of the image quite convincingly.
3: What version of PhotoShop did you use?
4: Any tips or tricks you would like to share?
- always work non destructively, use layers and layer masks – aka: the eraser tool is not your friend ;-)
- if you’ve never tried the smudge tool, do so! It’s really great for blending (as said before)
- if you’re into collages/montages: take your camera and shoot. Take photos of everything. textured walls, autumn leaves, a pile of rubbish, clouds during sunset, dirty pavements, your feet, colorful caterpillars, broken windows… you’ll never know what you will need tomorrow.
5: How did you go about learning PhotoShop?
I started with PS6 – self taught. A lot of trial and error. ;-)
