3 am Adventure

Your in a dead sleep, having a wonderful dream. All of a sudden this annoying ring peels out into the air! You swat at your ear thinking that will make it go away! No such luck! that annoying sound peels out again, only this time more sharply and brain peircing! You mutter and roller over to take a swat at the alarm! You realize it wasn’t the alarm as its ear piercing ring fills the silence of the early morning.! groggily you swing your feet over the side of the bed, rub your eyes and shuffle towards the phone.. which must be the only piece of machinery that could possibly be so annoying at such an early time in the morning. Your fingers find the reciever in the dark and you quietly mutter “Hello”. On the other end of the line is a sweet, tear filled voice. You child who is on a sleep over, is calling. Your fingers find the mouse of the computer to wake it up so you can check the time. YOu groan as you see its just past 3 am.
Your brain is more awake now. So you quietly ask ” sweetie whats the matter?” her reply… ” mommy I don’t feel very good!” She never calls you mommy so your brain kicks into high gear and you reply ” do you wanna come home honey?” she answers with a sob and an “uh huh” rubbing your eyes you quietly reply with “ok sweetie are the parents awake?” she sniffles and says ” no mommy” So you rub your eyes again and reply with ” ok hun go wake the mom up and I’ll be there in a few mins” she says ok mommy, I love you” Smiling you say ” I love you too hun see you in a few”

Setting down the reciever you stumble back into the bedroom, glance at the bed and decided you’ll go dressed as you are. turning around you shuffle over to the door, find your sandals in the dark, grab your keys and head out the door! There is no traffic so you blow through all the lights quickly, turn onto the highway and head off into the night. the roads are dead silent with only the odd vehicle.. You find yourself following one particular car that you are pretty sure should not be driving. keeping your distance you follow him past the cememtery. You glance over to silently greet lost family memebers. Your eyes rest upon a whitish spot just behind the hedge. It seems to be moving wiht you. You blink, rub your eyes and look again! its still there! You quickly shake your head and mutter i must be half asleep. Upon next glance whatever it was is gone! You scratch your head and check once more. All is quiet again behind the hedge. sighing you get your eyes back on the road and realize you need to turn off the main road. You are still following the questionable car so you keep your distance and take your time. One last turn and you are there. You knock on the door, hug your daughter and tuck her into the car. she snuggles in and closes her eyes as you head back in the direction of home. As you pass the cememtery you glance over to check to see if you were really seeing things earlier. All is quiet and dark. shaking your head you continue home where you tuck in your daughter and crawl back into bed to get a few more hours sleep before work.
