Modern Ancient Timepiece and Calendar by

New public art in Nürnberg, Germany, tells the time (when the sun is shining) and also the season of the year (by the length of the shadow cast by the sundial structure itself at noon. Unfortunately it was a cloudy day when I was there, so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

The eagle-eyed pedants among you might spot that the centre time is 1pm not midday. This sundial is a ‘modern’ one, and is adjustable for summer time – so you can put your sundial forward as well as your clocks.

Great shots and title Ian, great finds my friend

  • Thanks Clive. Nürnberg is a fascinating place – most of it looks old but is actually a faithfully rebuilt city within the ancient walls after having been destroyed by bombing in WWII.
