Eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly on an echinacea, what is commonly known as a coneflower. I was searching online on wiki between the Eastern and the Western and I believe this is a female eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly.
I was leaving town for the weekend and before I left, I went in our backyard to take a few quick photos in the garden. I was so glad I did because to my surprise, I came across this tiger swallowtail butterfly. I have never had the opportunity to see one this close let alone have the chance to take a photograph. Unlike my photograph of the monarch on the pink zinnia, this butterfly was very calm so I was able to get a few captures in before it decided to move on.
