Typically grows in public lawns, yards and gardens, likes sandy soil.
I have these coming up every autumn now along the edge of my lawn where a sick tree had to be removed. They seem to like to grow under those conditions. Starting as a white egg, and when the egg opens the mushroom grows out. A very fowl smell, all though in some countries they eat it while in egg stage.

    That is quite a specimen!

  • They are strange…took me a while to find out the family on the computer. but they are quite common where a once deseased tree had lived and been taken down
