The remains of the Temple of Mars Ultor in the Forum of Augustus, Rome. Following the lead of his uncle Julius Caesar, Augustus laid out a new extension to the forum, dominated by the Temple of Mars the Avenger, in thanks for his victory over the conspirators at Philippi in 42 BC.

The Forum of Augustus is a part of the World Heritage Site covering the Historic Centre of Rome. It is also protected as an historic monument under Italy’s national legislation.
