There’s a stranger in my mirror, we graduated together…

just a working stiff,
with dirty hands,
aching bones,
waiting to be healed,
searching for words,
a poem,
a verse,
a story,
a curse,
to ease the pain,
slow the drain,
hanging on to what’s left,
of the past,
youths just a memory,
we all cast it aside,
hoping it will return,
as our journey,
through life accelerates,
waiting for time,
to catch up,
i see the future,
in the eyes of the stranger,
that greets ,
me in the mirror,
i try my best,
to avoid this man,
look away,
he seems to follow me,
everywhere,
even though ,
i walk away,
not in fear,
but in regret,
for the lost words,
of a neglected youth,
that slowly drips,
from the tip,
of my pen,
refusing to let go,
freeing my soul,
as the weathered hands,
of a man,
who can finally,
see the light,
in the darkness,
of the northern nights,
sheds his skin,
accepting the past,
touching the face,
of the stranger,
in the looking glass,
i stand here,
surrounded by ,
ten thousand,
simple words,
searching for a verse,
looking into the eyes,
of my muse,
i smile,
for we know,
it was quite,
the ride,
we no longer walk alone,
and time,
will forever,
be on our side?

Took a slow drive down memory lane yesterday evening . Stopped by the old supermarket where I was a boxboy in my youth . Now it’s a 99cett store , now its owned by Asians as is the whole town . Went by the Mexican fast food place where we used to hang out in high school . It’s still there and the menu is still great . Asians and everyone else knows good food . Went by my old high school sweethearts and in its place was a huge mansion . So we drove by my old house and people from China now live there , they treated us very respectfully and nice . Somethings never change . Just America and the people who live here . Beautiful write my friend .

    I enjoyed this write Rocky : ).
Seems I too have a stranger in the mirror but she colored her hair red and now is being told by her college students I look 25yrs younger. I wonder how old they thought I was???
Peace, love, and joy to you and yours all the days of your life,

A beautiful verse Rocky….to me, it speaks of ones own journey…the good and bad…of finally reaching a point of self acceptance and happiness. Lovely journey….thank you for taking me along.
