Artist's Description

The Great Cave at Niah, Miri, Malaysia.
an important prehistoric site where human remains have been found up to 40,000 years old.
a visit this weekend yielded this picture.

the wooden teeny poles you see dangling from the roof of the cave are where the locals climb to collect the swallow nests for birds nest soup. A delicacy and not all that tasty if you ask me. But I’ll tell you what – when you see a tiny light at the top of the pole 80m above your head and see a bloke up there with, well, lets say – not the best safety gear you’ve ever seen. There’s no way you’d get me up there!
