Taken during a helicopter flight around the Southern Alps, Mt Cook and Tasman Glacier.
The peak in the foreground is called ‘The Abbot’ at 2623m (but probably a few meters higher after today’s 7.1 earthquake across Canterbury!) The bottom of the Tasman Valley in the background and runoff from the Tasman Glacier into Lake Pukaki

Cheers Dave,
I saw this one coming – as we were flying across I could see the composition of the image I wanted, and waited till the ridge of this range was just at the right spot before taking the shot – snap! spot on :o)
it was a beautiful day for a flight – a one off in conditions like this.. not a cloud to be seen. The scale is somewhat difficult to comprehend with this at small scale, needless to say you can see the river/streams through the Murchison valley bottom centre right

Spectacular! Is that actually a beach in the middle??? What lens was this. it seems very sharp (at least in small)!
no beach george, just the bottom of the alluvial plain -as it feeds into the lake… Lens – very sharp – dont’ think I need anything else, 28-75 Tamron :o)
