Tranquility - Lake Wakatipu NZ by

Lake Wakatipu and a quiet winters morning.
The perfect place for peaceful contemplation; That is – if you have your insect repellent with you :o) – The Sand flies are more than a bit of a pain!

Sony a850, 1/125sec at f10, iso100 28mm

I’m interested in hearing opinions in comparison to Wakatipu Dreams – similar image, slightly different perspective, which perspective is better and which image conveys emotion more?

Lovely mood here … I like how the light glistens off the wood.

  • Hi Vik, yes I do too – differently from the other one, the light from the wood really lifts this and gives a totally different mood to the other one for me, yet still delivering a really peaceful scene. The pier for me adds a measure of contemplation or almost trepidation in wanting to step into the image…
or perhaps I’m just talking bollox lol

Wow!! Really beautiful shot too….think I prefer the tones in this one. You’d asked for feedback and, if I may say….I think I’d prefer to see only one structure in this frame….the pier on the right seems to clutter the image….and I’d also crop the land formation on the left. Oh….listen to me, ‘cause I know what I’m doing……. NOT!!! LOL

  • I did think about that Wendi – in fact I will take out that crop of land on the left – not a lot I could do re pier on the right though :o(

Cool….maybe it’d be ok just without the landmass on second thought…. give it a go! I did think you might have been risking falling in the drink moving on the pier too much!! LOL

  • piece of land Wendi ? don’t know what you mean ;o) :wink wink:

Hi Dean, while “Tranquility” is a great image, its the Dream version that does it for me. To me there is a great feeling of space in the Dream perspective. I love the tone of it also, giving a slightly more dark and mysterious feel to the image. The pier in Tranquility takes up much of the image and while this makes it an interesting focal point and draws you into the image, I feel its a little too imposing. the use of the two piers in Dream does a better job at drawing you in to the very wonderful mountains and reflections which, for me, are the most fantastic part of these images. Still, if I was able to take images like these I would be so happy and I am only starting out so what I said above probably doesnt really make any sense!

  • no – you are correct paul – the space in foreground of the other image leads the viewer into the image. the pier adds a different dimension and a totally different mood. Hopefully both worthy of being published here together :o)
