Been a while and another feature
Hi Everyone,
It’s been an interesting couple of weeks! – I didn’t manage to get out with the camera much at all then last sunday took the train pictures and the flower pictures from mum’s garden and got a feature :o) for the californian poppy.
Isn’t it amazing how a feature draws people to your other work in your portfolio – so thanks to everyone who took a look and made a comment or three.
I await with baited breath, the arrival of a Sigma 70mm f2.8 Macro lens, it’s supposed to be pin sharp and detailed and I want to get out and get close to lots of things.
I’ve been inspired by lots of photos on here the last couple of weeks, especially regarding composition and lighting, and seeing how things look better at different angles. but the lighting thing is getting me… I don’t have any backdrops, extra lights, sheets, etc I loved Donnell’s lightbulb using an open doorway to create ‘extra’ light and a focus behind the subject, and also seeing how light from windows can cast an extra dimension on a darkened room.
If/when i ever get a chance to try these things I’ll pop my best up here. – in saying that, my camera reached 3000 shots…. (most of the bad and deleted) but at least i’ve taken that many pictures and every one goes to improving the next.
I suspect my life will change completely in January and you will be inundated with baby photos, so I’m busy looking at how to perfect the ‘baby portrait’ so I don’t bore you silly :o)
Anyway – cheers for your views and see you in the bubble

Well done Dean, good to see you back with a vengeance :-) Let me know how the 70M does, I’m after one of these too… As for the lighting, you don’t always need fancy studio equipment to get some rather interesting results…
Dean Mullin replied
must chase them up about that lens… I’m sure you’ll see the results up here!

Hi Dean…weather is temperamental as usual!! We’ve had cold, then non-stop rain (it rained so much the other day the roof of my colleague’s office fell in…), then some unseasonable sunshine, and now back to cold and overcast! I better things are a lot nicer where you are!
Dean Mullin replied
