Since Saturday 7th February 2009 the state of Victoria in Australia has been plunged into a crisis the like of which the people of the state haved never seen before. Fires have raged over much of the state leaving a trail of death and destruction. 211 are confirmed dead with fears of more as forsenic staff sift through the devestation. Over 1800 homes have been destroyed, countless live stock and wild animals and birds have been killed or badly burned. Scenes of unbelieveable destruction have become commonplace.
These events have brought out the best and worst of people. Individual heroism has become commonplace whilst sadly so have tales of arson and theft of goods from damaged homes and business and even of donations to assist the victims of the fires
Perhaps one of the biggest acts of bastardry was performed by the brewers, The Fosters Group which fired by cell phone a worker, who at the time of recieving his dismissal was acting as a volunteer fire fighter and was “on the job”
So I ask the world to display “random acts of kindness” not just to the people of Victoria and Queensland, which has been devestated by floods but to each other so we may life in a simpler kinder world.
