It’s not every day you become a great grandad for the first time. Leo Mason came into this world on Wednesday 7th December 2011 and this painting is dedicated to him.
I look forward one day to sharing in his view of this beautiful world and helping him grow to appreciate the marvels of nature.
This watercolour is a distillation of memories of my recent trip to the Lake District and was painted with Windsor & Newton artists paints on Saunders Waterford 140lb NOT paper.

As a painter of light, legend and landscape I am indebted to the wonderful medium of watercolour which gives me the versatility to incorporate many different styles in to my work.

What a tribute. Enjoy your new role in life.

  • Many thanks. It is good being a grandad but the girls are growing up it will be good to have someone else to spoil..and the first boy!

Speaking as someone who lives very close to the Lakeland Fells I can say that you have really captured the mood of the place. I love it when the air is clear and the mountains stand out sharply against the sky. A very beautiful picture.

  • Many thanks Robert. I’m so pleased that I didn’t disappoint with you living so close. Instead of trying to paint just what is in front of me I am trying to express my emotional response to a place or feeling. This means artistic licence but firmly based on a framework of reality.

What a wonderful tribute to your great grandson!

  • Thanks Lynda.
The trouble is that Maddie lives a long way from us so it will be a few weeks before we get to hold him!

    Beautiful Glenn x

  • Thanks Tricia – I still can’t believe I’m a great grandad – it seems only yesterday that Leo’s mum was a little girl, our first grandchild.
