Another in my ‘Follow the Leader’ project which use an original oil painting by Benjamin Williams Leader RA as the basis for a watercolour this time 20 × 16″ done on Saunders Waterford 140lb NOT paper with Windsor & Newton artists paints.
The original painting was done in 1899 and features the ruins of Tintern Abbey on the banks of the River Wye.
The original is in the Worcester Art Gallery.

As a painter of light, legend and landscape I am indebted to the wonderful medium of watercolour which gives me the versatility to incorporate many different styles in to my work.

I googled this Benjamin Williams Leader painting and man you have a tough act to follow with this guy. Nice work on those hills and the little white cottages are fabulous.

  • You are so right Randy – this man could paint! I am really looking forward to studying his work and trying to incorporate some of his fantastic techniques into mine..quite a challenge.
