For sixteen years I lived beside the A19 Trunk Road which bisected the village where I lived just outside York.
I walked through this layby nearly every day on my way to the river walk.
This was one Christmas Day and though the layby was empty for once, there was still evidence of some recent use – perhaps someone on their way north to visit family – who knows!
This watercolour was done on Saunders Waterford 140lb NOT surface with Windsor & Newton artists paints.

As a painter of light, legend and landscape I am indebted to the wonderful medium of watercolour which gives me the versatility to incorporate many different styles in to my work.

Very atmospheric wintry scene, Glenn. Nice one!

  • Thanks Ann – it was the pattern of the tyre tracks that fascinated me.

Gorgeous scene. Looks like some drive lost a little bit of control here.

  • I think you’re right Marsha – maybe had one too many the night before!

Beautiful! You really have captured the feel of Winter in these pieces!

  • This has a bit more reality about it Leslie – it was so strange to see the layby without a parked vehicle in it!

What excellent work!! You capture the beauty of it all, so well!

  • Thanks Jael – the snow certainly made it beautiful for a few days until it melted.
