Yesterday I went up to Mt Difficult State Forest again for another explore and waterfall hunt and found this massive set of falls which are not marked on any map which I must say beggars belief. All up they must be 40 or 50meters high and although the flow is not overly huge they are never-the-less a very impressive sight.

I scared myself a bit climbing up to this vantage point but these flowers were just so vivid I had to get them in a shot. Once in position it then took 25 exposures before I finally got one where the flowers remained nice and still for the duration of the two second exposure time.

Here’s a shot of the whole drop:

Camera: Canon EOS 5D mkII
Lens: EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM @ 50mm
Filter: Circular Polariser
ISO: 50
Shutter Speed: 2 sec
Aperture: f/22
WB: Auto
When: 4:00pm on 14/10/2010

Australia’s rugged landscape is an important part of my life and over many years I have explored some of the more remote parts of it on foot, ski, kayak and rope. I usually travel alone so I can take my time capturing the essence of these places without distraction. Life slows down and after a while I feel like I begin to merge with the land, nature takes me into her confidence and changes me. I hope you enjoy the fruit of these excursions.

Beautiful yellow cluster of flowers. What a find.
I love your passion for the perfect shot.
This is a rare find. You inspire me to keep hunting if this is what you can find.

  • It absolutely amazes me what amazing places there are close to Melbourne and yet unmapped, thanks Stephen.

  • You know how it is, it looks alright from bellow and then when your up there in extremis the footholds and hand holds start to look less than adequit and time starts to slow down…

Decided I need to be better about letting the missus know where I am just in case something happens on these little outings and then you need to come rescue me… haha

Cheers from iphone4 700m asl amidst rainforest and sleet at midnight – technology… lol

  • I am led to believe the creek is called Rebecca Creek although I have not found this name on any maps, just referenced in a blog by some guy on the web. Wild night to be in the elements mate.

haha – yeah – you know me… I actually wore shoes this morning… but it was snowing i suppose ;)

  • Man the weather must have been extreme indeed for you to have had to resort to those desperate measures… Maybe you need to create a hybrid thong/ snow shoe, you could call it a shnong (or snoe flops for the US market). I reckon you could really dominate this overlooked corner of the market and make millions.
