Another shot from my Australia day weekend sea kayak trip to the Prom. This is my first stitch I’ve done with my new Really Right Stuff pano head. The stitch worked completely seamlessly in both colour and detail and I am wrapped with the result. This is just a two picture stitch but with my 5DmkII this has resulted in a massive 25″×10″ canvas at 300dpi which is awesome resolution and enough to create a large poster on the bub without extrapolation. The detail in the boats is amazing (yes there are boats, i.e. best viewed large).

The Mountain range on the horizon is the Vereker Range and next to that is Bennison Island which we visited the next morning on our way back to Yanakie.
Thanks as always for looking.

Camera: Canon EOS 5D mkII
Lens: EF16-35 f/2.8L II USM @ 16mm
Filter: none (first go tried a circular polariser which created a darker band that couldn’t be stitched, won’t try that again with the pano head)
ISO: 100
Shutter Speed: 1/13th sec
Aperture: f/16
WB: Daylight
Exposure Compensation: minus 1/3rd stop
Post Capture: Photomerge, Levels, Hue/ Saturation and sharpening in PS

Australia’s rugged landscape is an important part of my life and over many years I have explored some of the more remote parts of it on foot, ski, kayak and rope. I usually travel alone so I can take my time capturing the essence of these places without distraction. Life slows down and after a while I feel like I begin to merge with the land, nature takes me into her confidence and changes me. I hope you enjoy the fruit of these excursions.

Nice tonal range – are you enjoying the 5D mkII?

  • Totally loving it Mark, like a whole new ball game. Surprised how many photos I’m now taking (and how few I keep haha) and how many bracketed images I use with a stop under or over. ISO, instant feedback, how configurable it is and the mountain of features compared to my film camera. In short, I’m in heaven, thanks for droppin’ by.

This is great to see – pushing the 5dmk2 to achieve such great results. I really appreciate the detailed info you’ve given here Travis – it’s very inspirational for a fellow 5dmk2 owner. I have GOT to check out a pano head now, as the ball head just ain’t doing the job on these types of images. :)

  • Hi Peter a bit more of my pano head journey can be found here, thanks bud

The light on those rocks is beautiful Travis. You are enjoying the new toy aren’t you and what a trip you’re on – brilliant.

  • Because of the tides we couldn’t leave till 4:00pm so by the time we pulled in it was quite late. The others set up camp happy for me to run around like a chook. Went to both headlands and was rewarded by this beutiful last light of the day, yup having fun, thanks
