Took this shot two weeks ago on Mt Donna Buang in the clouds and rain. The weather wasn’t really condusive for photography but the mist was so atmospheric I thought I’d have a go anyway. Pointing a camera almost straight up in the rain with a wide angle lens and an umbrella is a delicate balancing act. It involved lots of lens wiping, hoping and a few screw ups (drips and umbrella in frame didn’t quite give the shot the right vibe). Of all my shots this ended up being my only drip free and umbrellaless one.

Australia’s rugged landscape is an important part of my life and over many years I have explored some of the more remote parts of it on foot, ski, kayak and rope. I usually travel alone so I can take my time capturing the essence of these places without distraction. Life slows down and after a while I feel like I begin to merge with the land, nature takes me into her confidence and changes me. I hope you enjoy the fruit of these excursions.

This is excellent Travis. I love that it is almost monochromatic except for the slightest hint of greenery in the new fern.

Just perfect with that fern anchoring the composition and that colour is magnificent. Someone needs to make windscreen wipers for lenses with an automatic shutter release between wiper swipes.
