Little Oberon Sunset

Little Oberon Sunset

Last Saturday night I managed to score myself an off track permit to camp on Bad Saddle near Little Oberon at Wilsons Promontory. Got my slides back today and this is the first shot I’ve scanned in. The weather was a bit weird mostly wet dull and overcast except for two small breaks in the clouds. Each sun patch was accompanied seconds later by a windy drenching. The extra heat from the sun being enough to cause the clouds in nearby proximity to drop their bundles. I literally took the shot whipped the camera off the tripod (which seconds later blew over) and with my back to the golden gale tried to protect the camera from the elements under my coat. An amazing place to spend the night and quite literally a privilege to do so.

For more shots from this area check out my Wilsons Promontory gallery.

Lucky you. We struggled up that hill, puffed and panted, and when we got to the top, could hardy see a hand held in front of our noses. Nice to see what the view should have been. Lovely colours.

  • Travis Easton replied

That would of been Mt Oberon and not Little Oberon. The only way to get to this posse is to struggle up through the thick wet scrub for an hour or so. Puffing and panting up the Mt Oberon road is a piece of cake next to that. Thanks for dropping by, Prom weather is notoriously fickle.

Brilliant capture Trav.. the fact that it was such difficult circumstances makes it that much more special…What a privaledge to photograph from this remote spot…Great work indeed.

A privilege indeed and I know it. Had a phone conversation about this permit before the written submission and the ranger said they probably wouldn’t allow camping so close to Tidal, but I applied anyway and they ended up granting permission anyway. There’s some awesome caves and overhangs up there too which I couldn’t climb into due to the rock being wet which I’d love to go back and shoot one day. Thanks as always Rob.
