Trees in the mist
Mountain ash are the tallest flowering plant on earth. Before logging became widespread there were even documented cases of 100m plus high trees. I photographed these beauties on Mt Donna Buang in the Yarra Valley outside of Melbourne. As a drum teacher I teach in five different schools every week, thursday being my Upper Yarra Secondary College day. I particularly look foreward to thursdays for the post school jaunt I inevitably do. The Yarra Valley is truly a valley of wonders containing beautiful forests, snow capped peaks (in winter), waterfalls, caves, vineyards and numerous basalt outcrops. A truly special place.

Another extraordinary composition Travis – I feel as if you are my travel guide and it’s such a joy! Beautiful as is the pic to the right – just gorgeous!

great one travis, early mornings are the go.

Thanks for the comment Lois, I actually took this one in the middle of the afternoon, bit rainy but loverly atmosphere.

Travis i have an itchy shutter finger and today is a bright sunny day and im at home trying to decide what to do for the rest of the weeknd.
Travis Easton replied
The Yarra Valley is only an hour away. Warburton, the Yarra River, Rainforest Gallery, Mt Donna Buang, Ben Cairn, are all wonderful and make a nice circuit of scenic delights. They would make an excellent weekends worth of exploring and photography, they’re all in the Melways too.
George Lenz
nice scene… well done

Their endurance, flexibility and ancient age teach humbleness. The marvelous leaf shapes and bark patterns are inspiring. This pretty capture on the beautiful Mountain Ash is truly emotive.
Thank you for adding this lovely scene along your sweet description and your personal pledge to Art for Conservation.

Absolutely beautiful shot. We drove through a mountain ash forest last winter on the way to Bulla.. at the time it was around 4:30am so it was very eerie.

I love to see your new work ~ new beauty and a tale with new learnings ~ this has such a soft and wonderous feel ~ I wish I could have walked among them ~ xx
Travis Easton replied
Thanks Linda for your comments, walking amongst them would involve a drenching bush bash, yuk. Loverly to look at from the side of the road though. I totally know what you mean however you just want to get lost in that sublime trunks and mist.
Tony Middleton
wonderful moody image – the soft tones generated by the rain and the mist are sublime and really add a smooth feel to the trunks and photograph.
Travis Easton replied
I was actually heading to a basalt cliff called Ben Cairn but on this particular stretch of the track it was so thick and moody I just had to stop and click. I was hoping it would be this moody at the cliff but alas. Had a big lightening storm here tonight how is it down your neck of the woods?
