Whisky Bay Sunset
On showing this photo to a friend he admired the way I had patiently waited for the sun to reach just the right spot before taking the picture. In reality this shot was taken in a frantic hurry, I had sped down to the Prom trying to get there before sunset. Parked the car sprinted down to the beach set up the tripod and composed the shot, changed lenses ran another 50m down the beach recomposed levelled the camera and pressed the shutter. As a matter of course I always release the shutter on a ten second delay to avoid camera shake. On this particular occasion I was convinced the rapidly setting sun would disappear before the shutter tripped. Fortunately it all came together in the end.

I love the beauty of this image – full spectrum of why – color, light, compo – you name it ~ however I found myself totally feeling your story as many of my own—sans the equipment and skill you portray in your telling, hurried tho it be… I lived this most every clear evening spent getting thru dinner, then high tailing it barefeet barely grazing the ground to get to the path, over the dune to the beach in time to shoot with my instamatic…thanks for the sunset and the remembering (and tolerating a my tale told here)

Fantastic beauty here!

Tremendous Travis. All that effort was well rewarded. We have visited Wilsons Prom three times and not once has the sun shone for us!! Obviously we are not righteous enough! Peter.

I teach with a guy who has an identical story except for him it’s never stopped raining. He’s now given up thinking he must be cursed or something. Thanks for the comment.

Very interesting story behind the shot. It’s funny how things pan out sometimes, another day and you would have missed it.
Well captured, given the hurried conditions – I particularly like the small reflection of sun on the wet sand in front of the tide and the overall pinky / orange tones are very soothing.

The warm orange/pink colour is just fabulous.
