Pastel Dawn
The day before I took this shot was a huge 41km day ending before and after dark. The plan being to meet up with Donovan at Lake St Clair and drive to the top of Mt Field for a sunrise shoot. Unfortunately my torch had died and our plans to meet came unstuck when I couldn’t find Donovan. The next morning we worked out that I walked right past the car calling his name but nowhere in my thinking had I accounted for the fact that he would be asleep in it so the meet up never took place. Instead I trudged back to the visitor center and ordered myself the most expensive hamburger fries and coke in the history of the universe, $23, then wandered back to the free campsite set up my tent by moonlight on the beach and fell into bed.
The next morning this was my consolation prize taken 20m from my tent door.

A beautiful peaceful consolation prize it is, too. Love the silhouette of the tree, fog, and reflections on the still water.

Fantastic capture Travis – beautiful colours and so peaceful. And I love your story with it!! Free camping and and expen$ive hamburger!! LOL!!!
Travis Easton replied
Funnily I set up about 10m from another tent but had no idea I did so until the next morning. A few hundred meters from the free campsite was the $27 a night one. Of course the paid one was full and the free one had only two tents in it… Certainly was a serene way to start the day, ta.

Great Photo.
In relation to the Hamburger meal. You obviously have not been to Telstra Dome. You would not have had the hamburger included in the meal for that sort of money there :)
Travis Easton replied
Wowzer, sounds even more expensive than ski field fare. I’ve been told Telstra Dome is one of the most expensive venues per head in the world to hire.

lovely hues and great story Trav – hehe :)
Travis Easton replied
Just about killed myself with tiredness walking through the dark without a torch so was gutted when I couldn’t find him, bit annoyed at first too until I came to terms with it, then the next day to find out I walked straight passed the car with him asleep inside without noticing… doh. Oh well, these things happen, glad someone finds it funny.

love it Travis!
the layer of mist is stunning. an the framing with the tree is perfect!
i reckon well worth walking 41km… but i guess you still woulda got it without the walk.
and yeah- that would want to be one bloody nice hamburger for that!
but that is one hell of a day! you woulda been tired, i’m surprised you managed to wake up in time lol.
i’ve done 33km a few times in hilly terrain and that’s a mean day!
another 8km… no thanks :-)
Travis Easton replied
The first 13km was straight up and down The Acroplis practically a rock climb in a few spots. Was a huge day once I finally stopped it took major will power to put my pack back on to walk the few hundred meters back to the campsite.
Stephen Williams
i could imagine that woulda been hard!
i’m no slouch when it comes to this sorta stuff, but i think you’ve blown me away with this effort Trav! haha. well done man!
