Lower Kalimna Falls

Lower Kalimna Falls

Just before Christmas I went to Cumberland River in the Otways for a few days with my three girls. The last thing we did before returning to Melbourne was to visit this magical little drop. Due to good unseasonal rains just before we left it was in fine form (for summer) and was a really lovely way to cap off our stay.

A week after I took this this I got my 5DmkII so this was one of my last Velvia 50 shoots… maybe!

Camera: EOS30
Lens: EF24-70 f/2.8L USM @ 28mm
Film: Velvia 50

Damn you just can’t beat that Velvia for a shot like this can you? It’s just so rich! Beautiful work mate.

  • Travis Easton replied

In the end the overly blue colour cast I’d get with these long exposures with Velvia used to really bug me, so in many ways I’m really appreciating the more real to life look of digital, although this wasn’t nearly as bad with my L lenses. Be interesting to see how I feel about it once I’ve got more distance from it. Certainly like the look of this one though, thanks mate.

Very nice shot of this lovely spot Trav. Must get back over that side again soon ! :)

  • Travis Easton replied

Certainly is a lovely area, I’ve been here a few times but have been amazed at how much better my shots from this latest visit were compared to earlier visits, spring is certainly the best waterfall friendly time to visit.

Great shot Travis, as i have never been there how high is this?
    it looks about 3-4 meters.

  • Travis Easton replied

The shot just shows the bit you can see inside the cavern behind the falls. All up probably 8-10 meters, thanks for droppin’ by again.

Beautiful shot. I noticed Velvia 50 has a way of making water look black which improves contrast.
