Lake Tyers Sunset
A shot from my recent family holiday to Lake Tyers with my new 5DmkII. Unfortunately a computer virus is giving me hell at the moment and it was re-imaged a few days ago and I’m waiting until next Monday to get CS4 installed so until then it’s jpeg’s straight from the camera (I’ll process the RAW’s next week).
Yes it was an amazing night. I took a few of this exact shot at ISO 100 bracketed with long exposures but after these shots a bird flew into the frame and I grabbed 4 more as it flew across at 1600 ISO and very shallow depth of field but these turned out to be my fav’s (best viewed large to see the birdy).Only wish I remembered to take my old film camera to take a few Velvia shots to compare, but I forgot. I left after putting the kids to bed and at the time the light wasn’t looking in any way like it would shape up to anything special…

love this sunset ~ and your story ~ how many times have I shot the sunset and you think it can’t get better ~ and then it does ~ big time~!! I love the surprise of every sunrise and set ~ we just don’t know where they’ll go ~ this one is a beauty ~ twice over with the water a perfect mirror…the clouds look almost black and white ~ like you treated this with focal color ~ but I see you didn’t ~ so cool!! xx

Lake Tyers is 12km from Lakes Entrance but same difference. I was there from the 3rd to the tenth of Jan with the family.

Beautiful work Trav, used to have family that lived in Lake Tyers, have spent lot of time there, great part of victoria.
Travis Easton replied
First time I’ve been there myself, my great, great grandmother Hillary Easton, nee Roadnight was the daughter of the first white settlers at Lakes Entrance (formerly Cunningham) on Meringbaur Hill overlooking the old natural entrance. Hope to get back there again sometime, we chose it purely as a good mid way point for relatives traveling from Canberra and Melbourne, lovely spot.

Whoa that is awesome, particularly considering it’s jpeg and straight out of the camera. Still no camera can make a composition as lovely as this – that is pure skill my friend.
Travis Easton replied
Thanks mate, nice to hear the opposite sentiment to ‘Wow you must have a great camera’ ;-) appreciated

Gone now I’ve wiped the hard-drive and re-imaged, but it’s a bit of work getting the dam thing set up again, monitor calibration will be a ball as always, thanks
