Masons Falls

Did my usual post work Thursday walk/ waterfall run a few weeks back and visited Wombelano Falls and then Masons Falls only to discover that the gates shut at 5:00pm when I got there at 5:10pm. As it happened this worked out for the best when I parked my car outside the park and walked in getting the whole place to myself and having the additional advantage of getting onto the falls themselves to get this unique perspective.

Masons Falls are near Kinglake just outside of Melbourne.

Out of interest one of my drum students at Upper Yarra Secondary College lent me some old 1966 maps today with three waterfalls on it I’ve never heard of before which is exciting as one of my little goals is to visit every waterfall within the vicinity of Melbourne. As per usual every time I get near the end of my list I discover new waterfalls to visit. A few months ago I had forty on my list now it’s over 60. Which means more fun and discovery for me yeah. Visited a really obscure one last week Q Falls out the back of Noojee and it wouldn’t surprise me if I was the only person who has visited them in ten years (short but rough bush bash). Love the thrill of seeing the rarely seen.

How bizarre, always interested in what captures peoples attention. Sorry to dissapoint anyone but I don’t think the park minds one iota if anyone walks through the park after hours they just like to put a curfew on motorised transport. I’m not really that naughty, although if the bad boy image works…. hehe

Fantastic. Don’t you love it when you are the only person in a particular place. I get such a kick out of the alone in the bush thing. Good luck with your quest to see all the falls !

  • Travis Easton replied

Thanks Steven, with rainfall being what it has been of late and the tiny catchments some of the more obscure drops have got, seeing them with water flowing is at times problematic. All part of the fun, solitude is good heh.

nice travis looks like there,s still some water .

  • Travis Easton replied

Yerr I’ve been surprised at flows considering the catchments are already going backwards at the rate of knots. Here’s for a big wet storm tomorrow to top everything up again.

beautiful shot love the colours :) I am jealous we don’t have any waterfalls (that are running) in my local vicinity – would have to go way down South I think! Still I shall await your collection of 60 to view instead you have a way of capturing them that I am still only dreaming about :))

It sure pays of to be a bit naughty. As a photographer you sometimes have to pusch it a bit (lot). Wonderfully taken Travis. How can they close the gates as the light is at it’s best around that time.
