Post bushfire regrowth

The Grass tree (Xanthorrhoea australis) like many Australian plants needs fire to propagate effectively. Under normal conditions it is rare for the flower to form, after fire however it is a different story with every grasstree in sight sporting an amazing ‘kangaroo tail’ from its mop. I found this bunch on the lower slopes of Mt Oberon at Wilsons Promontory a few months after the 2005 bushfires.

For more shots from this area check out my Wilsons Promontory gallery.

The amazing cycles of Nature’s, fire as life. By comparison, it reminds me of my garden. Certain plant species will not bloom unless their endure severe cold under two metres of snow. They are yielding now the most delicate flowers anew.

Thank you for sharing this splendorous living form and for your generous support to conservation.

Hey I like your photographs, Grass trees are my favourite plants. Here in Adelaide they are quite rare but if you trek deep enough in the surrounding national parks you can find small communities.

I even wrote something about them, it’s submitted in my writing section, Titled “Godess Xanthorrhoea”.

    Excellent photo.
