Girls and Women

For women – you know who you are.

Girls and Women belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical

A girl is pretty,
A woman is beautiful.
A girl will giggle
A woman will laugh.
A girl is sweets,
A woman is chocolate.
A girl is a holiday,
A woman is a home.
A girl will run,
A woman will wait.
A girl is a race for all,
A woman is the prize for one.
A girl needs to be held
A woman embraces.
A girl flickers,
A woman is constant.
A girl craves attention,
A woman has all eyes.
A girl is stories,
A woman is truth.
A girl wants sympathy
A woman brings strength.
A girl will take,
A woman will give.
A girl aspires,
A woman has become.

A girl gets nothing –
A woman will have everything.

“I’m not a girl…. not yet a woman…” Miss Spears says it best.

In all seriousness though. I think this is a wonderful observation on life and an insight into your perception of girls and women.

Such a deep and true celebration of female emotional maturity.
It takes a mature man to understand and appreciate those strengths in a woman.

I am totally blown away by the response to this. I wrote it in a hurry this morning in thanks for something written by someone far wiser than me. I wish I did have this much insight in everyday life. I’m just as dazed and confused as the next bloke really.

Hi Chris, this is truly lovely. The contrasts are so insightful and perceptive. It reminds me of a woman, dressed simply, but in her simplicity the sophistication, grace and elegance which is innate, shines through. Thank you for showing us such beauty.

Chris, this is my first time to make a comment on redbubble. (I’ve been shy) However, after reading ‘Girls and Women’, I had to.

It’s very insightful. I think there is a woman and a girl in every female. Though, the image of the woman you present is so magnetic. It’s hard to not be bias.

I think it’s too long. It would be more powerful if you just retain the most beautiful phrases. “A girl is stories, A woman is truth” being the best, in my opinion. Which are your top seven or so?
Otherwise it’s just like one of those too-long email forwards. Just a suggestion. Hope this helps.

  • transmute

The respect of my heart is moved by this poem, its poet, and by all the woman who responded in kind to this work. And with all due respect to you Chris: On the ladies question below, by MissKristy …

The girls are external and shy of deep innocence
Shy of the common sky/ground or death cycles

The ladies are fixed with masks she’ll deceive with
A social facade that precedes the soul’s break down

A woman needs no guise or pretense throughout her,
Nor apologies for all her sacred truths standings

When you have been around as long as me, seen as much as I’ve seen, spoken to the men that I have – I would have to disagree with you that you are just an ordinary man. Your poem should never be shortened or changed in any way. A couple of billion more men like you and divorce would be only a word in the dictionary that no-one knew much about and wars would consist of only the written word in history books. Go you good thing! ;))

I appreciate your view…its refreshing! especially when there are so many guys out there who see a women and treat her like a girl lot knowing the difference, but I guess that doesn’t stop people from thinking like PhotoNaturally…testing your manhood! He didn’t even have to say anything, its more obvious to spot a boy from a man.

I like this – but am offended by it in a strange way. I suppose because everyone calls me a girl, or cute or pretty. But I never get called beautiful like a woman.
It is really truthful, but at the same time its not a truth I want to hear, because it really is true that a girl never has the strengths, staying power or attraction that a woman has.
    Beautiful work though.
