Original bamboo drawing on 5″ × 7″ heavy card stock. This is from my new, “mini card size drawing” series on RedBubble. It is drawn with lavender/purple ink brush pens.

Drawn at The Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino, California – June 24, 2011. I sat under the trees near the Bonsai garden.

The path of Zen leads to peace…

I am inspired by the elegance and simplicity of japanese ‘sumi-e’ and chinese ‘shui-mo hua’ paintings. This ‘one stroke style’ painting is from my ‘Beauty of Bamboo’ series. The bamboo is a magnificent gift from nature.

My paintings are created to relax the inner soul, bring peace and tranquility to the spiritual side of your nature.

“Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind.”

I studied illustration and design at The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. I am married and the mother of two wonderful boys; one is a college graduate and the other is currently attending college.

I am inspired by the elegance and simplicity of japanese ‘sumi-e’ and Chinese ‘shui-mo hua’ painting. I love the grace and beauty of bamboo.

Very nice “haiku” work Rebecca. When we lived in Pasadena we were at the Huntington often. Were members. I have some images and calendars here on rb from my times there.

Didn’t mean to show ignorance on the haiku comment, sumi-e would have been a better comment of course. Though it would make an excellent haiku illustration also.

  • Thanks, Chet. The Huntington is very inspirational and relaxing. It reaches my muse.
